India Typing Test Online - Free Hindi Typing Practice (Mangal Font)

Welcome to India's most advanced Hindi Typing Speed Test. Designed specifically for government job aspirants, our tool helps you master the Mangal Font (Inscript Layout). Whether you are preparing for SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, RRB NTPC, Banking (IBPS), or CRPF HCM, this platform provides the exact environment you will face in the exam hall. We use "Clean Hindi" text (no English numbers or characters) to ensure 100% exam realism.

Understanding the Typing Modes

Different government exams have different rules regarding the use of the Backspace key. We have designed three specific modes to help you prepare for every scenario:

1. Simple Mode

Best for: Beginners & Learning

In this mode, there are no restrictions. You can use the Backspace key freely to correct mistakes anywhere in the text. Use this mode to memorize the keyboard layout and build your initial speed.

2. SSC (Restricted)

Best for: SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS

This mimics the official SSC interface. Restricted Backspace means you can only correct the current word you are typing. Once you press Space to move to the next word, the previous word is locked and cannot be edited.

3. CRPF (Disabled)

Best for: CRPF HCM, CISF, Police Exams

This is the hardest mode. The Backspace key is completely disabled. You cannot correct mistakes once a key is pressed. This forces you to type with 100% concentration and accuracy, exactly as required in paramilitary exams.

How to Switch from English to Hindi Keyboard?

To type in Hindi, you must enable the "Hindi Indic Input 3" or standard Hindi keyboard on your Windows PC. You do not need to download third-party software.

Step-by-Step Guide for Windows 10/11:

  1. Press the Windows Key and search for "Language settings".
  2. Click on "Add a language" and type "Hindi" in the search bar.
  3. Select Hindi and click "Next", then "Install".
  4. Once installed, click on the Hindi language pack options and ensure "Hindi Traditional" or "Hindi Inscript" keyboard is added.
  5. Shortcut: To switch between English and Hindi while typing, press Alt + Shift or Windows + Space.

Inscript vs. Kruti Dev (Remington)

There is often confusion between the two major Hindi layouts. SSC exams have moved to Inscript.

Feature Inscript (Mangal) Remington (Kruti Dev)
Technology Unicode Based TrueType Font (Legacy)
Keyboard Layout Logical (Vowels Left, Consonants Right) Typewriter Style
Exam Usage SSC, Railways, Banking UP Police, some State Courts

Exam Rules & Backspace

Different exams have different rules regarding the Backspace key:

  • SSC CGL/CHSL: Backspace is usually Restricted. You can correct the current word you are typing, but you cannot go back to change previous words.
  • CRPF HCM: Backspace is often Disabled entirely.
  • High Courts: Varies by state, but accuracy is paramount.
  • Banking Exams (IBPS): Typically allow limited backspace usage.
  • RRB NTPC: Follows similar rules to SSC with restricted backspace.

Our tool simulates the "Restricted Backspace" logic by default to build your discipline. Learn more about SSC rules.

Understanding Net WPM vs. Gross WPM

In competitive exams, typing fast isn't enough; you must type correctly.

Gross WPM

(Total Characters Typed / 5) / Time.

This is your raw speed, ignoring mistakes.

Net WPM (Final Score)

Gross WPM - (Errors / Time).

This is what counts. If you type 40 WPM but make many mistakes, your Net WPM could drop to 20 WPM. Aim for 95%+ accuracy.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Q: I pressed Alt+Shift but it's not typing in Hindi?
A: Ensure you have clicked inside the text box. Also, look at the bottom right of your taskbar; it should say "HIN". If not, reinstall the language pack.

Q: My WPM is very low (10-15). How to improve?
A: Do not look at the keyboard. The Inscript layout is scientific: Vowels (Matras) are on the left hand, and Consonants are on the right hand. Practice "Home Row" exercises daily for 15 minutes. Try our typing games to make practice fun.

Q: What is the passing marks for India typing test in government exams?
A: Most exams require minimum 30 WPM Net Speed for Hindi typing. SSC CGL requires 35 WPM for higher grade posts. CRPF HCM requires 25-30 WPM with high accuracy.
